The Truth About Corn

Much Ado About Nothing.

The recent hysteria about alleged allergic reactions as a result of all corn used in pet foods is unfounded and false. Corn has erroneously been labeled as an allergen because various pet food manufacturers use too much corn (as well as other grains) proportionately in their feeds, or they use a poor-grade corn (category 2 livestock grade) instead of premium corn, (category 1 human grade). Livestock-grade corn is high in corn gluten. If you use too much poor-grade corn you have too much gluten. Too much gluten bonds (glues) protein molecules and other food elements, which prohibits them from being digested. The undigested food elements become a food antigen, which causes an allergic reaction. If you do not use excessive amounts of poor-grade corn, you will not produce the antigen that causes allergies.

The Good Stuff.

Premium-grade corn is one of the best sources of skin and coat conditioners. It is also an excellent source of amylase, a much-needed enzyme for the proper digestion of carbohydrates. Without amylase, much of what animals eat will not benefit them and may cause dramatic weight loss. Premium-grade corn is also an excellent source of carbohydrates, protein and fatty acids, which provide additional energy.

Doing It Right.

We use small amounts of premium-grade corn in Viand. Our corn is whole and is used as a carbohydrate source. Whole human-grade corn is considered to be low on the list of foods that cause allergic reactions. We strongly recommend that you start using Viand only after the de-tox diet and you eliminate all grains as your pet may have current allergies. The elimination of all grains during this process tends to clear the system of existing antigens and readies it for our high-quality food with good meat protein and beneficial carbohydrates.

We Took It Out.

Many people have suggested that we just remove the “good corn” from our foods. We tried this once, and found the food was not nearly as effective. In more than 150,000 bags of food sold, there has been not one claim of an allergic reaction!

Read The Label.

Viand is “HYPOALLERGENIC” and “GLUTEN-FREE.”

Prove It To Yourself.

Get an ear of corn raw or cooked (without the cob), feed it to your dog and see what happens. The answer: Nothing. Let’s end the hype!
